WALNUT, Calif. - Sami Oblad broke her own 400-meter school record Saturday afternoon at the Mt. SAC Relays.

The senior from Stansbury Park, Utah clocked 51.79 to place second in the elite sections of the 400m and break her previous school record by over half of a second. Oblad's previous record was 52.35 set at the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Round. 

A Second Team All-American at the 2025 NCAA indoor championships, Oblad's time ranks No. 20 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 in the Big 12. She also holds BYU's indoor 400m record at 51.70.

The Cougars' 4x400m relay team of Emily Ellis-Dalley, Paje Rassmussen, Oblad and Cate Phipps Louis placed sixth overall with a time of 3:39.44. The 4x100m relay team of Rassmussen, Ellis-Dalley, Katie Hutchings and Oblad placed 11th with a time of 45.25.

Kat Beachler made her way on BYU's top-10 list in the shot put. The freshman from Omaha, Nebraska threw a lifetime personal best of 14.96m/49-1 for the program's No. 10 all-time mark. Beachler placed eighth overall in the invitational flights.  

Gretchen Hoekstre threw 54.10m/177-6 in the discus to place second overall at the Beach Invitational. The senior from Seaside, Oregon then travelled 40 miles to compete in the event at the Mt. SAC Relays. Hoekstre threw 53.94m/176-11 for seventh place in Walnut. 

Cortnie Barker placed third in the high jump with her second-best clearance in a Cougar uniform. The freshman cleared 1.76m/5-9.25. Freshman teammate Summer Young placed eighth in the event with a jump of 1.68m/5-6. 

Other top performances from the Beach Invitational include Rebekah Erikson's 3.95m/12-11.5 clearance in the pole vault for eighth place and Zoey Bonds' 13.73 performance in the 100m hurdles for ninth place.
