PROVO, Utah — BYU gymnasts Kylie Eaquinto, Brynlee Andersen and Deb Silva swept the Big 12 weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Eaquinto was named Gymnast of the Week, Andersen was named Event Specialist of the Week and Silva was named Newcomer of the Week.
The Cougars are coming off their season-high 196.775 win against ASU in the Marriott Center Friday night. BYU had season-highs on vault (49.175), beam (49.1) and floor (49.325) in the Big 12 showdown, besting its previous team high by 0.875.
Earning her first Big 12 weekly award of the season, Eaquinto competed on three events, securing three scores above 9.825. She notched a 9.825 on vault, 9.850 on bars and a 9.925 on the floor, both a new season and team high.
Andersen competed on both beam and floor, scoring a team-high 9.925 on beam. The three-time Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week has scored a 9.9 or above on the balance beam six times this season. With an NQS of 9.895, Andersen is tied for 14th in the nation on the apparatus.
True freshman Silva has become a staple competitor for the Cougars, finding herself in both vault and floor lineups throughout the season. Earning her first-ever Big 12 honor, Silva scored a new career-high 9.875 on vault. The score gave her the event win during the final home meet at the Marriott Center. Silva is the first Cougar to earn Newcomer of the Week this season.
