PROVO, Utah — Senior outside hitter Luke Benson and senior middle blocker Teon Taylor of the No. 6 BYU men's volleyball team swept this week's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation weekly honors, with Benson winning Offensive Player of the Week and Taylor collecting Defensive Player of the Week.
Benson led the Cougars in kills with 34 on a .443 hitting percentage, guiding BYU to two road wins over No. 11 Ohio State. Benson led all players in kills in both matches, featuring a season-opening high of 21 kills on Saturday. Benson averaged 4.86 kills per set and 5.50 points per set, leading all BYU outside hitters in hitting percentage.
Taylor led the Cougars in blocks with 13 through the two road matches. He earned a match-high nine blocks against the Buckeyes on Saturday, including an ace and three kills on seven attempts. Last season, Taylor's season-high in blocks was eight. The senior averaged 1.63 blocks per set through eight sets played.
This is the third career honor for Benson, and fifth career honor for Taylor.
