AUSTIN, Texas — At the ITA Kick-off Weekend in Austin, Texas, the BYU women's tennis team fought against Baylor and Maryland and lost both matches.

The athletes traveled to Texas and faced the Bears on Friday, then played a consolation match against the Terrapins on Saturday.

Baylor Results

Doubles

Order of finish: 3,1

No. 13 ranked Tiglea and Kostenko defeated Huang and Levelston in a close 6-4 match. Paired with Tullis and Tan's loss, Baylor took the lead going into the round of singles matches.

Singles

Huang took BYU's first and only singles point against the Bears, and Baylor took the next three points, winning the match 4-1.

Order of finish: 1,5,4,3

Maryland Results

Doubles

Order of finish: 1,2,3

Kovick and Bluestein evened the score in the doubles matches after Huang and Levelston lost to Maryland's first doubles team, but Tullis and Tan lost a close 7-5 match to give the Terrapins the first point of the match.

  • Diya Challa (UMD) def. Madison Smith (BYU), 6-2, 7-5

Order of finish: 5,6,2,3,4

Maryland took the first two singles matches, but Levelston and Kovick defeated their opponents to gain the third and fourth singles points. After a 7-6 first-set victory, Bluestein lost the next two sets. Huang left her set unfinished, and the Terrapins won the match 4-2.
