COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 6 BYU men's volleyball team will face the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes on the road in its season opener on Friday evening, with coverage on Big10+.

The Cougars debuted at No. 6 in the 2025 AVCA Preseason Poll. Overall, BYU has been ranked in the top-10 since February 6, 2023. BYU’s highest rank at any point last season was six.
BYU brings back All-American outside hitters Miks Ramanis and Luke Benson. In 2024, Benson was named to the 2024 All-MPSF First Team, with Ramanis named to the All-MPSF Second Team.
On the defensive side, senior middle blocker Teon Taylor returns as a 2024 All-MPSF honorable mention. Taylor led the team in blocks per set during the 2024 campaign, with an average of 0.80 blocks per set. He totaled 73 blocks and a team-high of eight solo blocks.
BYU welcomes Hawaii transfer Keoni Thiim, who played for the Rainbow Warriors from 2022-2024, totaling 189 kills, 144 digs, 71 aces and 35 total blocks. In the 2024 season, Thiim appeared in all 30 of Hawaii’s matches, with 14 starts at outside hitter.

Ohio State senior Cole Young along with junior teammate Shane Wetzel were named 2025 Preseason All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. In 2024, both Young and Wetzel were AVCA 2024 Honorable Mention All-Americans.
Ohio State was the No. 3 seed in the 2024 MIVA Tournament after finishing third in the regular-season league race with an 11-5 overall record. The Buckeyes won their 19th overall MIVA Tournament Title with a 3-1 win over No. 4 seed Lindenwood April 20.
COUGARS VS. BUCKEYES
The last time Ohio State defeated the Cougars was in the 2017 National Championship match where BYU fell 3-0 to the Buckeyes. In the most recent matchup, BYU defeated Ohio State 3-2 in Provo in 2023.
