Fryer, Vance and Frischknecht named to All-Midwest Region Team

Three Cougars were named to the All-Midwest Region Team, with Allie Fryer being a First Team selection, Mackenzee Vance being a Third Team selection and Avery Frischknecht being named to the Fourth Team.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches named three BYU women's soccer players to the NCAA Division I All-Midwest Region Team. Allie Fryer was a First Team selection, with Mackenzee Vance named to the Third Team and Avery Frischknecht named to the Fourth Team.

The Cougars ended their 2024 campaign fourth in the Big 12 conference and No. 19 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. The women’s soccer team notched six conference wins and six home field wins this season. South Field continued to be one of the toughest environments to play in throughout the nation, ranking second in accumulative attendance.

As BYU’s highest scorer of the year, Fryer has been selected for the First Team All-Region for the first time of her soccer career. With 11 goals, two assists and a team-high 73 shots, the junior forward led the Cougars’ offensive attack this season. She notched three braces on the season against Utah, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Fryer earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, her second year in a row earning Big 12 conference honors. With her brace against OSU in the quarterfinal match of the Big 12 tournament, Fryer was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. 

Vance was the second-highest scorer for the Cougars this season, coming in at seven goals. The UCLA transfer junior has been selected for the Third Team All-Region for the first time of her career. Vance scored her first goal as a Cougar against Utah State, and scored in three-straight games at the end of the year, with two goals in the Big 12 tournament.

After scoring in back-to-back games in the Big 12 championship, Vance was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. Two of Vance’s goals this season came from free kicks outside the 18-yard box, proving her to be crucial in set plays. She earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors following her first season at BYU.

Playing in every minute of every game this season for the Cougs, Frischknecht has been selected for the Fourth Team All-Region. With 1,890 minutes on the pitch, the Mapleton, Utah native was a crucial leader for the Cougars this year. Frischknecht tallied her first career goal against Arizona State, and proceeded to score three more goals on the year.

All four goals by Frischknecht came from headers, including her goal in the 90th minute against Texas Tech to give BYU the 2-1 win for its last game of the regular season. She also earned Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career in week two after beating ASU. After a successful season, Frischknecht was selected for the All-Big 12 First Team.
