PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s basketball head coach Amber announced the signing of Braeden Gunlock on Tuesday afternoon.

"We couldn't be more excited to add Braeden to our program," said BYU head coach Amber Whiting. "Braeden is a winner on and off the court. She impressed us throughout the recruiting process with her commitment to doing whatever was needed to help her teams win. She is able to guard multiple positions, score the basketball in multiple ways and will be a key addition to our team next season."

Gunlock is a 6-foot forward who comes to BYU by way of Bigfork High School. The Bigfork, Montana native averaged 17.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.4 assists per game during her junior campaign (2023-24). The then-junior had tallied 1,300 points through three seasons and led the Valkyries to a 22-2 record that included a 10-0 region mark.

She is a three-time Montana All-State honoree, led Bigfork High School to a 25-0 record and state title in 2023 and was named the Montana Class B Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. In her three seasons with the Valkyries, Gunlock’s squads have totaled a record of 72-4 and finished in the top 3 in the state tournament each season (2022 - 3rd; 2023 - 1st; 2024 – 2nd).

Off the basketball court, Gunlock is a two-time All-State soccer player, a member of the National Honor Society and an MHSA Student Advisor. She is planning on pursuing a degree in nursing and is an avid student but also enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, wake surfing and roping.

The newest member of the BYU squad comes from a family of athletes. Gunlock's mother Courtnee played basketball at Carroll College from 1995-2000, her father Troy ran track at Weber State from 1997-99 and played football for Montana State-Northern from 1999-2002. 

Gunlock was also recruited by Boise State, Eastern Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State and Yale.
