PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s volleyball head coach Shawn Olmstead has announced a fall scrimmage against UC Irvine in St. George, Utah on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. MT at Snow Canyon High School.
"As a team, we are looking forward to the opportunity to branch out beyond our normal day-to-day routine of fall practice and compete," said Olmstead. "I’ve got a great relationship with UC Irvine's coach, David, and we’ve always chatted about this idea of a scrimmaging in a new location where we could get the community involved and also just play in a fun match. We have plans to share a couple meals together and have our student-athletes interact with another volleyball program outside of their typical season. I’m excited for the guys, but I’m really excited to interact with Cougar Nation. We would love to make this an annual event that we improve upon each year."
Admission will be first come, first served and is $5 per person. There is also an option to bring five canned goods to secure a ticket. All funds will be donated to the local community.
In the 2024 season, BYU hosted the then ranked No. 7 UC Irvine in back-to-back games and fell in four and five sets, respectively. UC Irvine went on to reach the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, falling 3-2 to the eventual national champions UCLA.
