"The Autumn Classic is our one home meet of the year," said head men's cross country coach Ed Eyestone. "It gives us a chance to showcase some of our talent as well as serves as a 'rust buster' meet for a lot of the guys. We had just a handful of people two weeks ago up at the Utah State meet, but this weekend is when we will really be putting a majority of the guys in uniform."
The Cougars enter the second meet of the season coming off of a notable win two weeks prior at the Utah State Alumni Challenge. Davin Thompson led BYU across the finish of the 7k race in second place at 20:51.9. The rest of the Cougars crossed in succession, placing third through sixth.
Senior Casey Clinger is set to make his season debut Friday after taking off over a year of competition for the Cougars due to injury. Clinger is a four-time All-American with NCAA Championship finishes of 24th (2017), 13th (2020-21), eighth (2021) and seventh (2022). He recently placed fifth in the 10,000-meters at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials (27:59.71).
After the Autumn Classic, the BYU men's team will head to Madison, Wisconsin to compete at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Fri. September 27.
