Boise, Idaho – BYU men’s tennis opens its 2024 fall season on Sept. 13th and 14th at the Dar Walters Classic, hosted by Boise State University.

Eight players will compete for BYU in both singles and doubles play – Adam Chodur, Alex Edmonston, David Duong, Hardy Owen, Otto Schreiner, Redd Owen, TJ Wells, and Tygen Goldammer. The doubles teams will be Duong and R. Owen, Goldammer and H. Owen, Chodur and Edmonston, and Wells and Schreiner.

Tournament Start and Format

The tournament starts on Sept. 13th and the Cougars will compete on the 13th and 14th. 

Singles and doubles will be played throughout the two days of the contest. Matches begin at 8:30 AM on both days.

The Cougars

Adam Chodur

The transfer from Sacramento State will make his debut as a Cougar. In two seasons at Sacramento State, the Castaic, California native appeared in 41 matches across both singles and doubles, highlighted by a 16-3 singles mark during the 2023-24 campaign.

Alex Edmonston

Edmonston transferred to BYU last year after an impressive career at Concordia. Edmonston was 10-6 in singles and 11-1 in doubles during the 2022-23 season. The junior from Pembroke, Massachusetts did not have any stats from the 2023-24 season and will make his BYU debut on Friday.

David Duong

The sophomore begins his second year as a Cougar. Duong competed in 19 matches as a freshman and posted a 7-5 record in the 2023-24 season. Duong competed only in singles last year and will make his first doubles appearance.

Hardy Owen

The freshman returned from serving a church mission this summer and will make his first appearance as a Cougar. Owen played tennis at Brighton High School in Salt Lake City and was the number 1 recruit out of Utah for the 2022 class.

Otto Schreiner

Schreiner returns to the Cougar team after one year of play and then service in a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Schreiner appeared in 13 matches in 2021 going 3-9 in singles and 3-6 in doubles. 

Redd Owen

Owen is entering his junior year coming off his most successful season in collegiate tennis. He competed in all 22 dual matches and was 12-7 in doubles and 11-7 in singles in the 2023-24 season.

TJ Wells

As a freshman last year, Wells competed in all 22 dual matches mostly in doubles and had seven singles appearances. Wells went 3-4 in singles and 8-8 in doubles. 

Tygen Goldammer

The sophomore enters his second season at BYU after his 2023-24 campaign. He appeared in 21 of 22 dual matches and was 9-8 in singles play with an 8-8 record in doubles. 

The Competition

BYU will be playing against eight other schools including, Air Force, Boise State, Idaho, Portland, Idaho State, Montana State, Nevada and Weber State. Matches will be held at the Appleton Tennis Center and Julia Davis Park.
