TEMPE, Ariz. — BYU men’s tennis seniors Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs were ranked the No. 11 doubles team in the ITA preseason national rankings on Tuesday.
Thayne and Fuchs had a 10-6 record last season as they picked up two ranked wins and were named the Big 12 Co-Champions at the No. 1 doubles position. They reached the rank of No. 71 in the April ITA rankings.
The pair also competed at last fall’s ITA National Fall Championships, becoming the first Cougars to advance to the Sweet 16 in the event since 2010. The performance earned them a spot at No. 35 in the ITA’s end-of-fall rankings.
This is the first time a BYU doubles team has been featured in the preseason ranking since 2019 when Sam Tullis and Ben Gajardo were No. 42. They also become the highest-ranked Cougar pairing since the 1988-89 season when David Harkness and Johnny Mattice were No. 10.
