PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. — Twelve BYU swim and dive athletes were recognized with individual Spring Scholar All-America honors by the Collegiate Swim and Dive Coaches Association of American on July 3.
The CSCAA awarded Scholar All-America designation to seven BYU men and five women, including Emerson Edwards, Jordan Tiffany, Brad Prolo and Luigi Riva with first team status.
Athletes earn a first team citation as an NCAA Championship competitor with a minimum semester GPA of 3.5. Second Team members must also achieve a 3.5 semester GPA while meeting a “B” time NCAA Championship standard or competing in an NCAA Zone Diving meet.
Edwards, a junior from Columbia, South Carolina, posted a 4.0 GPA as a human resources management major while recording an All-Big 12 Second Team finish in the 100 breast. Prolo capped his senior season with a Big 12 200 fly championship and his second-straight NCAA Championship appearance, all while earning a 3.89 GPA in management information systems.
Tiffany’s debut season at BYU included a flurry of achievements with five broken school records, a Big 12 100 fly championship and Honorable Mention All-America finishes in the 100 fly and 200 individual medley. In the classroom, Tiffany garnered a 3.87 GPA in human resources management. Riva rounded out BYU’s first team honorees with a 3.58 GPA in economics while finishing All-Big 12 Second Team in the 100 free.
Distance swimmer Darwin Anderson along with divers Russell Haws and Chase Hindmarsh each earned Scholar All-America Second Team designation.
Brooklyn Larson, Aubryn Ordyna, Sophia DeBergh, Halli Williams and Mackenzie Lung gave BYU women’s swim and dive fine Scholar All-America Second Team honorees.
Larson and DeBergh led BYU women’s diving relay to a podium finish at the NCAA Zone E Championships, while achieving success as psychology majors as well. Both Larson and DeBergh earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team with respective GPAs of 3.93 and 3.86.
Ordyna competed at NCAA Zone’s and achieved a 3.93 GPA in exercise science while just a freshman. Williams and Lung added Scholar All-America Second Team honors to academic and athletic All-Big 12 Second Team spots.
