PROVO, Utah — As one of the first activities kicking off BYU's 100th season, former Cougar greats from BYU's storied history came together to celebrate the 100 seasons of BYU football last week.

In a private event at LaVell Edwards Stadium Friday, hundreds of BYU's past and present football players and staff gathered together for a casual reunion barbeque on the field. Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe and head coach Kalani Sitake gave brief remarks during the event designed to bring together the brotherhood of BYU football alumni.

On Saturday, the BYU Football 100 Seasons Gala, a formal VIP special event hosted at Nu Skin Enterprises in Provo, kicked off the public celebrations for the upcoming milestone season. Dozens of football alumni representing BYU teams from the 1950s to the present attended along with several hundred VIP guests. Following a blue-carpet entrance, photos and dinner, invited guests observed live a nationally televised two-hour program entitled BYU Football: A Celebration of 100 Seasons.

The BYUtv live special featured some of the legendary happenings over the century of Cougar football while highlighting BYU’s unique football legacy and history. Special guests participating on the program included BYU President C. Shane Reese, Patti Edwards, the wife of Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards, College Football Hall of Fame quarterback Marc Wilson, national championship quarterback Robbie Bosco and many other former greats.

In addition to President Reese, former BYU presidents Kevin J Worthen and Cecil O. Samuelson attended, as well as other key administrators and members of the coaching staff that helped build the Cougar football legacy.
