PROVO, Utah — BYU baseball will face crosstown foe Utah Valley on March 25 at 6 p.m. MDT in a Monday matchup at Miller Park.
Utah Valley will make the short trek up University Parkway to Provo with an 11-13 overall record, including 4-2 in WAC play and 5-10 on the road. The Wolverines have won seven of their last eight with sweeps of Stephen F. Austin and NAIA Bushnell, along with a two-game split at Arizona State (4-5, 7-5).
BYU enters week seven of the 2024 baseball season with an 11-10 overall record. The Cougars are 4-5 in Big 12 play and are tied for seventh with Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas and UCF.

KNOW THE FOE
The Cougars will meet the Wolverines for the 46th time on Monday. BYU leads the all-time series 35-10, including 19-3 at Miller Park. BYU came up short in the last meeting, a 9-8 loss at Utah Valley on March 28, 2023. Before that setback the Cougars had won 14-straight games dating back to May 10, 2016
Eddie Smith is in his third season at the helm at UVU and is 64-74. He is 1-1 versus BYU as the head skipper at Utah Valley and was 0-3 as assistant coach at Santa Clara in 2012. Utah Valley went 34-24 (16-12) in 2023 to finish third in the WAC. The Wolverines recorded 131 doubles in 2023, good for 25th nationally.
UVU came in second behind only Grand Canyon in the 2024 WAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Second baseman Daniel Dickinson, WAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year, leads the Wolverines with 34 runs on 34 hits with 17 RBI while batting .343. Outfielder Calyn Halverson leads Utah Valley in batting average at .381 with 20 runs and 16 RBI.
Ethan Fowlks and Braden Boisvert lead the Wolverine pitching staff with a combined 5-2 record and 57 strikeouts.
WEEK IN REVIEW — AT UTAH TECH & TEXAS TECH
BYU won two of its four games on a six-day road trip through St. George, Utah and Lubbock, Texas last week. The Cougars roared out to a 9-1 lead at Utah Tech and cruised to a 11-6 win on March 19. Left fielder Luke Anderson went 3-of-4 with 2 RBI and scored a run, while shortstop Chipper Beck went 2-of-3 with a RBI and two runs versus the Trailblazers.
Designated hitter Kuhio Aloy began the week with 3 RBI against Utah Tech before tallying four more in BYU’s 8-5 win in game one at Texas Tech on March 21. Aloy’s grand slam in the top of the third helped the Cougars get off to an early 5-1 lead over the Red Raiders. BYU catcher Collin Reuter put an exclamation point on the win with a solo homer in the top of the ninth.
Cougar starter Ben Hansen (3-2) earned the win at Texas Tech with two runs allowed over six innings, while striking out four. Stone Cushing sealed the deal out of the bullpen with his league leading fifth save of the season.
Through 21 games, the BYU pitching staff is top five in the Big 12 in several categories including first in fewest home runs allowed (12), second in hits allowed (177), third in runs allow (110) and fourth in ERA (4.82).
The staff is led by Mason Olson who is tied for eighth in the Big 12 in appearances. The senior southpaw leads the league in fewest earned runs allowed (4) and is third in ERA (1.59). In addition to leading the league in saves, Cushing leads the Big 12 in games finished (10).
The BYU offense is led by third baseman Easton Jones who is hitting .333 with 15 RBI, 12 runs, six home runs and four doubles. Anderson has a team-high 15 runs scored with three doubles, three homers, 13 RBI and a batting average of .329.
Aloy boasts a team-leading 20 RBI to go along with 11 runs, six home runs and four doubles, while batting .312. Aloy and Jones are tied for fourth in the Big 12 in home runs.
