PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s tennis will face two Big Sky Conference foes this week, taking on Weber State in Ogden Thursday and hosting No. 72 Idaho State Saturday.
The Cougars (6-3) are winners of five matches in a row and fresh off a 6-1 victory over Nevada last Friday.

Where Things Stand
Several Cougars extended their winning streaks in Friday’s win, led by Wally Thayne earning his seventh-consecutive singles win for a 7-1 record at the No. 2 slot. Zach Fuchs and Tygen Goldammer have also won four straight in singles, in addition to three in a row for Jack Barnett and David Duong.
On the doubles side, Thayne and Fuchs are winners of five straight at the No. 1 spot. The pair currently holds a 5-1 record together in 2024. Jack Barnett and Redd Owen, along with TJ Wells and Tygen Goldammer have won four in a row for 6-2 and 4-3 records, respectively.
As a team, the Cougars’ five-straight wins marks the longest streak since a seven-game run from March 26-April 17, 2021.

BYU and Weber State have shared two common opponents this year, with the Wildcats having lost to Omaha 4-3 at home and besting UC Riverside 4-1. BYU defeated Omaha 7-0 in its home-opener and beat UC Riverside 4-0 twice in a doubleheader.

Weber State went 12-9 last season, with a 6-0 mark at home and fourth-place finish in the Big Sky standings (5-2).

The Wildcats are led by Brad Ferreira, who is in his 12th season as head coach with a 116-122 record. During his tenure, Ferreira has led Weber State to the 2016 Big Sky conference championship and a subsequent NCAA tournament appearance.

Six of seven roster members return from last year, including 2023 All-Big Sky First Team Singles honoree Tristan Sarap. Sarap also earned a Second Team Doubles spot with fellow returner Elyes Marouani.

The Bengals and Cougars have shared no common opponents so far this season. Saturday’s match will cap off a string of three road matches at Utah, Utah State and BYU. The Bengals started out the stretch with a 4-1 victory over Utah.

Idaho State went 10-14 last year, with a 3-10 mark on the road and fifth-place finish in the Big Sky standings (2-5).

The Bengals are led by Oliver Good, who is in his second season as head coach with a 16-18 record.
