LIHUʻE, Kauaʻi – BYU men’s golf finished in 13th at the Ocean Course at Hōkūala with rounds of 287-292-296–875, carding 11-over-par for the tournament.
“There is great golf in these guys,” BYU director of golf Todd Miller said. “We made way too many mistakes on the toughest holes. When we get home, we will break down what we need to do to prepare for the next event and then get to work.”
Arizona took home the trophy at 20-under-par, with Cal close behind at 17-under. New Mexico closed out the top three at 10-under-par.
Zac Jones tied for 14th with a final round of 73, finishing at 3-under-par for the tournament. Keanu Akina (71-69-76–216) finished at even par and tied for 28th.
Peter Kim (75-74-75–224; +8), Max Brenchley (74-79-72–225; +9) and Cooper Jones (73-78-76–227; +11) rounded out the Cougar squad. Brock Goyen played individually and tied for 75th (74-71-80–225; +9).
“Golf is a crazy game,” Miller continued. “One year, you shoot 53-under-par, and the next, 11 over. It’s easy to lose your confidence, but I feel like every one of these guys on our team believes in their ability to bounce back.”
The Cougars will be back in action at the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club on March 4-5.
