Women's Recap

The relay squad of Sargent, Oblad, Hunter and Chamberlain made a statement on "DMR Weekend". Sargent ran the 1,200-meter leg in 3:16.71, Oblad the 400m in 53.10, Hunter the 800m in 2:05.19 and Chamberlain the 1,600m leg in 4:29.74. Their combined time of 10:44.67 placed third in the meet behind Washington and Providence.

The Terrier DMR Challenge deemed to be a fast race as the BYU women also rank No. 3 in the country and on the all-time collegiate list. The top-12 DMR teams will qualify for NCAA indoor nationals in March.

The previous school record set in 2023 was ultimately broken by nearly 4.5 seconds. Sargent has now contributed to the past two school records in the event as she anchored last year's team.

"I am very proud of our effort today. The women had a great race, trusted in each other and executed the race plan perfectly."

Carlee Hansen set a new personal best in the mile. She clocked a 4:33.13 time, good for No. 7 all-time on the BYU indoor record boards. Carmen Alder and Jacey Farmer ran 4:34.70 and 4:37.16, respectively.

Men's Recap

The men's DMR consisting of Lucas Bons, Josh Taylor, Sebastian Fernandez and Aidan Troutner finished in fourth place with a time of 9:25.79. Bons ran the 1,200m leg in a time of 2:50.58, Taylor the 400m in 46.00, Fernandez the 800m in 1:48.82 and Troutner the 1,600m in 4:00.45.

"Everyone in the DMR gave it their all. While it’s not quite what we wanted to run tonight, it’s still the second best time in school history. We’re currently ranked No. 9 in the country with that time, so we’ll see if it holds up to make it to the national meet. There’s another big DMR meet tomorrow where we expect some schools will pass us, so we’ll be watching results closely."

Ryan WaiteAssistant Coach of Men's Distance

Wyatt Haughton set BYU's No. 6 all-time indoor mark in the men's mile, clocking 3:58.75 on his way to an 11th-place finish. "Wyatt’s run was amazing," said Waite. "He became the first true freshman in our school’s history to break 4:00 in the mile, which is pretty incredible given all the great runners who have come through this program."

The Cougars will return to action next weekend in Lubbock, Texas to compete at the program's first Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship.
