IRVING, Texas — BYU swimmers Mackenzie Lung and Jordan Tiffany followed up pool record-breaking performances on Feb. 9-10 with recognition in the Big 12’s final set of weekly swimming awards on Wednesday.

Lung led the BYU women with 18 points versus Utah. The sophomore from Clovis, California put on a dominant performance in the 200 breast with a lengthy lead from start to finish. At 2:12.18, Lung returned the women’s pool record to BYU after Utah’s Charity Pittard set it in 2020. Lung also finished the race just three-fourths of a second shy of besting Katie McBratney’s 200 breast school record.
To start the meet, Lung powered the Cougars 200 medley relay “A” squad to a win in a pool-record 1:40.19 and knocked down another pool record in the 100 breast at 1:00.97.
Tiffany’s Co-Newcomer of the Week honor is his fifth conference award this season, tying him with swimmer Will Modglin and diver Nick Harris of No. 9 Texas for the league-lead in men’s swim and dive recognitions. The BYU men tallied 11 award winners through the regular season, second to Texas and in front of Cincinnati’s six, TCU’s four and West Virginia’s two.
Across both men’s and women’s swim and dive, the Cougars finish the regular season with 16 honorees, second only to Texas with TCU’s 10 at third-most.
Tiffany totaled 18 points for BYU in its 181-113 rivalry win over Utah on Feb. 9-10 at the Richards Building Pool in Provo, Utah.
For the second time in as many home meets, Tiffany toppled his own 200 individual medley pool record as he shaved 0.94 seconds off his previous best to go 1:44.62 and win the event. Tiffany is now a three-time men’s 200 IM pool record-holder. He first met the mark there as a Lone Peak High School athlete in 2019.
The junior from Pleasant Grove, Utah finished the meet with another individual win and pool record at 45.72 in the 100 fly. Tiffany also contributed to relay wins and pool records in the 400 free and 200 medley relays.
BYU swim and dive now prepares to compete at the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia Feb. 27-March 2.
