Warren announces signings of Goldammer, Duong

BYU men’s tennis head coach Zack Warren announced the signing of Tygen Goldammer and David Duong on Wednesday.

PROVO, Utah - BYU men’s tennis head coach Zack Warren announced the signing of Tygen Goldammer and David Duong on Wednesday. The signing period opened on Nov. 8 and closes on Aug. 1, 2024.

With both wrapping up their respective high school careers this year, the two will join the team in January and are expected to be immediate contributors in dual match play as the Cougars begin competition within the Big 12.

“Today is a special day welcoming two new members into our Cougar family,” said Warren. “Tygen and David are outstanding individuals, who will represent BYU at the highest level on and off the court. They’re very excited to start their BYU journey in January and we’re excited for our BYU community to get to know them better and see them compete for the Y. Our team and staff are thrilled to welcome Tygen, David and both of their families to BYU. They’ll be Cougars for life!”

Originally from Estero, Florida, the five-star recruit graduated from high school in May as part of Alabama Connections Academy's class of 2023. Head currently places Goldammer at No. 36 in singles among all recruits nationally. Boasting an impressive six victories against blue chip prospects, he is also 33-11 when facing off with four and five-star recruits.

A right-hander, Goldammer stands at 6-foot-4. He has ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in the USTA Boys’ 18s group and is currently No. 7. At the time of writing, he is ranked No. 1 in Boys’ 18s among prep athletes from Florida. Goldammer has been a doubles champion in Boys’ 16s at the Eddie Herr International Championships. He also has one ITF Jr. doubles title and is a three-time ITF singles finalist.

Starting in late August 2022, he went on a 28-match winning streak while winning USTA Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 tournaments and jumping over 400 spots in the USTA rankings.

Also a five-star recruit, Duong is from Fountain Valley, California and will graduate early from Pacific Coast High School this fall. Head places him at No. 39 nationally in singles among the class of 2024. He has previously been ranked as high as No. 16 in the country in May of 2022.

A left-hander, Duong is 5-foot-9. He has back-to-back Level 3 Henry Talbert Junior Championships under his belt, having won the 2021 and 2022 tournament editions. His 2021 victory came in the USTA Boys’ 16s Division, with his 2022 triumph in the Boys’ 18s Division. In April 2022, he also represented Team SoCal while competing for the Maze Cup. The Maze Cup is a prestigious annual team competition featuring the top juniors from Northern California and Southern California. There, he clinched the team win at 12-8.

With the two additions, the team roster will soon expand to nine members. The Cougars have two additional five-stars who will join the program in upcoming years: Hardy Owen and Caden Hasler. Both are signees serving full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Owen will return in time for the 2024-25 season while Hasler is slated to return in 2025.
