MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — No. 16 BYU women’s volleyball swept West Virginia (25-22, 25-20, 25-5) at WVU Coliseum on Wednesday night.
With a 20-point margin of victory in the final frame, the Cougars set a new rally scoring era record for the largest margin of victory in a single set at BYU.
The Cougars (23-6, 12-5 Big 12) hit .326 for the match while holding the Mountaineers to an .084 clip. BYU recorded 41 kills to WVU’s 28, also out-blocking the Mountaineers, 11 to six.
Outside hitter Erin Livingston paced the Cougars with 18 kills hitting .500. Fellow outside Eden Bower posted six kills, while opposite hitter Kate Prior and middle blocker Mia Lee each had five.
Setter Whitney Bower finished with 29 assists, and libero Kamaile Hiapo carded a team-high 13 digs. Prior and middle blocker Brielle Kemavor tallied four total blocks apiece.
Set 1
The opening set saw nine ties and three lead changes as four 3-0 runs fueled BYU to a 25-22 set win. The Cougars got seven kills from Livingston and three more by Lee to go along with a pair of Aria McComber service aces.
Set 2
Livingston took over in the second set, recording eight more kills as BYU went on two 4-0 runs and two more 3-0 runs. The Cougars tallied 15 kills in the frame, hitting .368.
Set 3
Tied at 3-3 in the final set, BYU reeled off 15-straight points, covering a 19-2 span as the Cougars ran away with it. They posted seven of their 11 total blocks in the third, closing the set on a 4-0 run with two kills and a pair of double blocks by Kemavor.
