PROVO, Utah - Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs are set to represent BYU men’s tennis in doubles play at the ITA National Fall Championships next week, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in San Diego.
As the grand finale to the fall collegiate tennis season, the tournament features 32 of the nation’s top men’s singles players and 32 men’s doubles teams. Athletes qualify through various prior tournaments, with the participating Cougars earning spots for their performance at September’s ITA Mountain Regional.
Thayne and Fuchs are the first to compete at fall nationals for BYU since Mateo Vereau and Sean Hill earned singles selections in 2019. Five Cougars have now qualified since the event began in 2017.

Dates: Nov. 1-5
Time: First round begins on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. PDT. Thayne and Fuchs will face off with Xavier's Ryan Cahil and Pascal Mosberger.

Format: Players will play one round of singles and one round of doubles each day, with a complete back draw also being played out for players or teams that lose on the opening day of play.
Thayne and Fuchs scored their automatic qualifying bid after besting Utah’s No. 55-ranked duo of Geronimo Busleiman and Berk Bugarik with a score of 5-7, 6-3 [10-4] in the final round of the ITA Mountain Regional on Sept. 30. The Cougars’ top duo holds a 7-2 doubles record together in fall play, including an appearance at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
