BOISE, Idaho — BYU men’s tennis freshman TJ Wells racked up two wins Saturday, including a defeat of Boise State’s Teague Burger in flight B’s north draw consolation final at the General Patton Invite.
Wells went back and forth with Burger early in the first set of the final round, eventually going to a tiebreaker and falling 7-5. Although the second set was close again, he bounced back with a 7-5 win. The tournament format substitutes a super tiebreaker for the third set. In the super tiebreaker, the freshman held on for a 10-8 triumph to move to 5-5 overall during fall play.
Wells’ first victory of the day came over Tyler Dalos (Eastern Washington) 3-6, 6-1, [10-3], also in a super tiebreaker. After losing the first set, the Alpine, Utah native rebounded with a strong second set before the dominant finish.
