FEDERAL WAY, Wa. — Mickey Strauss tallied a final score of 688.60 for the Cougars in the men's 3-meter dive event, punching his ticket to participate in the upcoming NCAA Championships. Day two of the Zone E Championships saw three BYU dive athletes compete in the 3-meter event for the men and the platform event for the women.
On the men's side, Strauss finished his prelim round just outside the NCAA cut line for the championships, with a 330.55, sitting in 9th heading into the finals. It was there where his 358.05 propelled him into 5th place, scoring a total of 688.60 to send him to the NCAA Championship events.
Chase Hindmarsh also competed in Tuesday's 3-meter event, placing 28th in the prelim round with a 201.30. The men will next compete in Wednesday's platform event with one more opportunity to be granted qualification for NCAAs.
For the women, Alexia Jackson was the lone participant for the Cougars for the second day in a row in the platform event. After her 229.45 prelim score and a 15th place finish for the first round, she ultimately went on to score a total of 464.00 after the finals, giving her a 17th place overall finish among the participants.
The women will also have one more opportunity to qualify for NCAAs on Wednesday, this time in the 1-meter event.
