SAN FRANCISCO — Allysha Mae Mateo shot a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to finish runner-up at the USF Intercollegiate as the Cougars finish fifth on Tuesday.

After two bogeys on the front nine, Mateo went on a birdie barrage as she carded five birdies on her inward nine to get to 3-under on the day, 8-under for the tournament and grab a season-opening runner-up finish.

“I am very proud of Allysha Mae and her resilience today especially with a rough start,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “She was focused, determined and, as we all know, is a great player. I am extremely proud of her for going for it this week and having a very good finish to start the season.”

Senior Kerstin Fotu earned her first top-25 finish of the season by carding rounds of 72-71-78—221 for an 8-over-par total.

Lila Galeai and Adeline Anderson finished one shot back of Fotu at 9-over. Galeai posted rounds of 77-73-72—222 while Anderson shot 75-75-72—222. Freshman Sunbin Seo, who made her first collegiate start at the famed Olympic Club, recorded rounds of 75-77-75—227 to shoot 14-over and finish tied for 46th.
