PROVO, Utah — Kickoff time has been set for the BYU versus Wyoming matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 24. The No. 12 ranked Cougars will face the Cowboys of the Mountain West at 8:15 p.m. MDT (10:15 p.m. EDT) in Provo. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN or ESPN2.
BYU welcomes Wyoming back to Provo for the first regular-season matchup between the two former conference foes since a 25-20 Cougar victory at LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2010. The last meeting between the Cougars and Cowboys was the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, where BYU defeated Wyoming 24-21, behind MVP performances by running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Harvey Langi.
In a regional rivalry that dates back to 1922, BYU is 45-30-3 all-time versus Wyoming. In fact, the Cougars first victory in program history came on Nov. 14, 1922 versus the Cowboys in BYU’s inaugural season.
BYU is coming off back-to-back seasons ranked in the top 20 under Kalani Sitake and are currently ranked 12th in the recent AP Poll. The Cougars opened the 2022 season with a decisive 50-21 win over USF on the road before defeating No. 9 ranked Baylor 26-20 in two overtimes in Provo last Saturday.
The Cowboys are currently 1-1 to start the 2022 campaign with a 38-6 road loss at Illinois and a 40-37 win over Tulsa at home on Saturday. Wyoming was 7-6 in 2021 and finished tied for fourth in the MW Mountain Division at 2-6.
