PROVO, Utah — BYU baseball recorded its ninth-straight win in West Coast Conference play with an efficient nine runs on 11 hits for a 9-3 win over LMU at Miller Park on Friday.  

“The guys were great tonight in all aspects of the game,” said BYU interim baseball coach Trent Pratt. “I loved the way Ryan Brady began the game and performed on the mound throughout the night. It was impressive.”

Brady, who made his 11th start of the year, kept the Lions scoreless scattering seven hits over the season-high seven innings he pitched. The Cougar defense was solid all night led by Brock Watkins who recorded seven assists, tying his season-high.

Leading 1-0 on a Jacob Wilk sacrifice fly in the second inning, the Cougars broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wilk began the offensive onslaught with his first triple of the season high off the wall in left field. Dawsen Hall then scored Wilk with a RBI ground out to second base, giving BYU a 2-0 lead and Hall his 11th RBI of the season.

Singles by Collin Reuter and Mitch McIntyre loaded the bases for Ryan Sepede who singled on a 1-1 count to score Watkins and Reuter. The two runs gives Sepede a team leading 44 RBI on the season.  

BYU’s 4-0 lead was short-lived as Cole Gambill doubled to right field, scoring both Sepede and McIntyre, then Austin Deming brought home Gambill on the ensuing at bat with a single up the middle that pushed the lead to 7-0.

The Cougars picked up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Deming single that scored Jacob Rogers and a double by Wilk that brought home Gambill for a 9-0 advantage. LMU scored a run in the eighth and picked up two more in the ninth for the final score of 9-3.
