LOS ANGELES — BYU men's and women's throwers saw action on the opening day of the outdoor track and field season at the Trojan Invitational on Friday. 

Men's Recap
Dallin Shurts and Danny Bryant finished third and fifth, respectively, in the men’s discus throw. Shurts recorded a season-opening mark of 56.58m/185-7 and Bryant threw a 51.94m/170-5. Sebastian Coleman of Long Beach State won the discus throw at 58.47m/191-10.

The two Cougars also finished third and fifth, respectively, in the hammer throw. Shurts recorded a mark of 56.58m/185-7, while Bryant, competing in his first outdoor meet, threw a 51.94m/170-5. 

Women's Recap
Leah Thompson highlighted the Cougar throwers on day one, tossing a 51.81m/169-11 in the discus, good for second place, a new personal best and ninth all-time at BYU. Jessica Thompson (50.83m/169-9) also set a personal best in the event, while Jayda Lee (44.74m/146-9) competed in the first outdoor meet of her freshman career.

In the hammer throw, Sable Lohmeier El-Bakri placed second with a mark of 55.97m/183-7. Lee joined her in the top-3, finished third after a mark of 50.84m/166-9.

Day two action, beginning with the women's pole vault, 3000m steeplechase, shot put and long jump, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PDT on Saturday, March 19. Live results and a live stream will be available.
