PROVO, Utah – The BYU football team held its annual photo day Wednesday afternoon as part of fall camp. The team conducted practice later Wednesday afternoon as it continues preparations for the the 2018 season.

Photo day gave incoming freshmen and returning players the chance to put on their uniforms to take a variety of promotional photos for the national television networks and local media that will be used throughout the season. The players also filmed promotional videos and recorded segments with BYUtv in addition to doing interviews with the media.

The coaching staff also took time to take photos and talk with the media at photo day. The following comments were among those shared by BYU head coach Kalani Sitake on Wednesday:

On the way the offense is picking up the new playbook
"We’ve thrown a lot of offense at them. Normally, in my experience, you try to space it out a little bit and focus on the core stuff you want to get done, but we kind of just threw it all out there and the guys are adjusting. They’re in a hard academic school, so it only makes sense now that they’re not in school to take advantage of the learning and try to get as much installed as possible. I think they’re doing really well with it. A lot of the mistakes aren’t mental mistakes with the plays, it’s just little technical things here and there. I think the coaches are doing a good job of teaching their position groups how to function.

On evaluating player effectiveness
"That’s why we really want to focus on doing game day situation-type drills and why we made the quarterbacks live in spring. We really want to see our guys perform in as much simulated gameplay as possible. Some of that is the physical part and some of it is just a situational or mental part. Regardless of what it is we just need production, so we are going to compete and put them in situations that are a little bit uncomfortable. We’ve done different things this camp, we’ve had way more team time and a lot of different reps than we’ve done in prior camps. It’s a hard camp, it’s going to be a hard season and we’re looking forward to it.
