PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s soccer head coach Jennifer Rockwood today announced the hiring of Steve Magleby as an assistant coach.
“We are excited to welcome Steve to our staff,” Rockwood said. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will help continue to build our players and program.”
Magleby replaces Aleisha Rose, who stepped down at the conclusion of the 2017 season after 14 years of coaching. He joins Rockwood’s coaching staff that includes assistant coach Brent Anderson and volunteer assistant coaches Rachel Jorgensen and McKinzie Young.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work with the women’s team at BYU,” Magleby said. “Jen and her staff have done a great job establishing it as one of the premier programs in the country. I’m grateful for the chance to be a part of such a great program and be at an institution that I love. I’m excited to get to work and offer my skill set to help the advancement of the program.”
Currently, Magleby serves as director of coaching for Celtic Storm and Rangers FC, two top local Utah youth soccer clubs. He has also been working as the assistant coach for the BYU men’s soccer team since 2015 and is the BYU Soccer Academy Director.
A former member of the BYU men’s soccer team, Magleby played for the Cougars in 2002 before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in La Paz, Bolivia. After returning home, he continued to play for BYU as a captain and was a member of the Premier Development League Northwest Division Championship team in 2007. He graduated from BYU in Latin American studies in 2009.
Magleby went on to play in Denmark in 2010 and was a coaching assistant for Lo Barnechea FC in Chile in 2012. In 2015, he received a diploma from the Catalan Coaching School in Barcelona, Spain.
The Maryland native currently resides in Provo, Utah, with his wife Dayna and their five children.
