Player Notes
Kyle Collinsworth finished with 15 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal. The 10 assists were his 10th career game with double-digit assists and tied him with Matt Montague for the most in a career at BYU. He also passed Jackson Emery for 24th all-time in scoring at BYU. Collinsworth passed Mark Handy and tied John Benson on the career rebounding list with 803 rebounds. His double-double passes Rafael Araujo and Brandon Davies and ties him with Jay Cheesman for ninth in career double-doubles with 25. Collinsworth scored in double figures for the 72nd time in his career moving him into 15th place by himself. A year ago, Collinsworth’s first career triple-double came against Hawaii at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
Chase Fischer led BYU with 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting and was 4 of 8 from 3-point range. Fischer added a career-high 4 steals to go with 5 rebounds and an assist.
Kyle Davis led BYU in rebounds with 8 and tallied 15 points, 3 assists and a steal. Two years ago, Davis faced BYU at Vivint Arena as a Utah State Aggie. He finished that game with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
In Jake Toolson’s fourth start of the season he totaled 7 points on 3 of 6 shooting to go with a rebound and a steal.
Corbin Kaufusi finished the game with 6 points, 2 steals and 2 rebounds, playing more than 20 minutes for the first time in three games.
Nate Austin scored 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. His 2 offensive rebounds passed Russell Larson and tied him with Brandon Davies for second all-time at BYU (246 offensive boards) in offensive rebounds, trailing Ken Roberts by 22.
Team Notes
For the fourth time this season, Collinsworth, Fischer, Toolson, Davis and Kaufusi started for BYU. The Cougars are now 3-1 with that starting five.
BYU shot above 50 percent from the field in both halves for just the second time this season. The Cougars did it against Adams State, as well. Those are the only games this season BYU has shot 50 percent or better from the field.
Runs
An early 9-0 run gave BYU an 18-12 lead with 13:28 left in the first half. Toolson hit a 3-pointer, Kaufusi dunked it for two, Collinsworth had a fast break dunk off a steal and Fischer added a field goal of his own.
An 11-2 run helped BYU retake the lead at 39-35 with 0:52 left in the first half. Fischer scored five points, Davis four and Seljaas two.
A 9-2 run began the second half and gave BYU a 48-39 lead with 17:15 left in the game. Toolson scored four points, Davis three and Fischer two in the first three minutes of the second half.

On the win:
“This is a really, really good win for our team. You take a really hot team that’s playing really well with a lot of confidence, coming off that eight-team tournament win down there in Florida, and then when you consider some of the issues we’ve been through as a team, to be able to come in here and win that game is really big. Hopefully we can springboard with this and get the team going.”
Consistency:
“We still turned the ball over 14 times tonight, but that is a way better number than the 20s that we were alluding to a couple weeks ago. We’ve slowed practice way down for a week or two and you can see it in our execution in transition.”
On the upcoming game against Utah State:
“Rebounding will be real key and execution, not turning the ball over will be real factors in this game.”
On Weber State:
"They have really good players and have been playing well the last few games. We definitely made it a point to make the shooters make tough shots. They made a lot of tough shots. They are great players. We aren’t the only ones working hard out there, so you just have to keep working hard and pick it up."
On second-half play:
"I think this team is definitely a second-half team. We were down every game at half in Spain. We get a little bit of momentum going in the second half. I would love for us to start the game better, but it’s good to have that in your pocket. If you are struggling, we can always come back."
Difference in the second-half:
"We got more stops in the second half. The tempo started to run our way. We started getting turnovers, which helped us."
On Weber State:
"They have tons of confidence right now, guys that are shooting close to 60 percent right now. We could have done a better job, but we did a good enough job."

“It was a tough game. I thought our kids played their tails off. They fought like crazy and showed some good toughness. There was a four-minute stretch at the end of the first half and at the beginning of the second half where they got away from us a little bit. Had we eliminated that, we are right there. We have a chance. BYU is a good team. I have a lot of respect for them. I told our kids that I was proud of their effort. We will get better.”
“We showed a lot of toughness. When you get down double digits to a team like BYU, they usually put you away, but we didn’t let that happen. I was proud of our effort and togetherness. But we came up short. There are no moral victories. We have a big ceiling for how good we can get because we have a lot of young guys.”
