COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Chase Dalton and Joshua Weirich took first and second place in the heptathlon with the second and fourth-best scores in school history at the Air Force Invitational.

“The meet has been very good and the kids have performed well,” associated head coach Mark Robison said. “For the most part we did well. Obviously the highlights were Chase and Josh. We are progressing and kids are staying healthy and performing well. "

Dalton set personal bests in four of the seven events and was just eight points away from the top heptathlon score in school history. Weirich set two personal bests; in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.

Mario Harper and Korey Smith finished second and third in the 400 meters in 48.90 and 48.98, respectively. Zach Blackham led the Cougars in the high jump, finishing second overall with a mark of 2.12m (6 feet 11.5 inches). Braydon Bringhurst had another strong meet, tying for second in pole vault by clearing 17 feet 10.5 inches.

Alex Ashworth turned in a solid performance, winning the triple jump with a mark of 14.59 meters. He also finished second in the long jump at 7.09 meters. Scott Matheson’s 7.07-meter mark was good enough to take third in the long jump.

The Cougars next compete at the Washington Invitational in Seattle next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
