PROVO -- After successful 2009 campaigns, the BYU men’s and women’s cross country teams will enter the 2010 season ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the NCAA Mountain Region.
Ed Eyestone’s men’s team won the Mountain Region in 2009. The Cougars return two scoring athletes from the 2009 Mountain Region meet, including Miles Batty (second place) and Nathan Ogden (16th place).
The women’s team finished third in the Mountain Region in 2009 and return four of the teams’ top five finishers. Senior Cecily Lemmon-Lew leads the way after a second-place finish last season, and will be joined by Katy Andrews (12th place), Nicole Nielsen (34th place) and Sarah Edwards (48th place).
Regional ranking are determined by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The rankings are a reflection of a team’s strengths entering the year based on returning and new runners on each team as selected by a representative in each region.
BYU will begin its season on Saturday at the BYU Autumn Classic at the Cascade Golf Course in Orem, Utah.
