Fretheway's 14th-place finish became her career-best at nationals. The senior from Cheyenne, Wyoming is now the second-most decorated BYU women's cross country athlete of all-time, second only to five-time All-American Elizabeth Jackson (1995-99). The award marks head coach Diljeet Taylor's 16th top-40 placing individual athlete for the program at the national championships.
Despite leading the team score through the first two kilometers, the Cougars fell to third for kilometers three and four, fifth in kilometer five and finished the race in 14th place scoring 399 points. This marks the program's eighth-consecutive top-15 finish at the national meet, all of which have come during Taylor's tenure.
